Community Collaboration Restores Coventry Grammar School’s Nature Trail Footbridge for Outdoor Learning

Students and families at Coventry Grammar School (CGS) have safe access once again to their outdoor learning environment following the successful reconstruction of the CGS Nature Trail footbridge.

The project was brought to fruition through a collaborative partnership between the CGS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and the Town of Coventry’s Protected Spaces Stewardship Committee.

Driven by a commitment to strengthen the school community and broaden educational opportunities, the CGS PTO donated funds directly toward the footbridge reconstruction. The restoration ensures that current and future K-2 students can safely cross the stream to explore, learn, and experience all that the trail has to offer.

"The PTO's goal is to support projects that create meaningful opportunities for our students," said the CGS PTO. "We were proud to be involved in the restoration of the CGS Nature Trail footbridge. We extend our gratitude to the town’s Protected Spaces Stewardship Committee for dedicating their time and effort to making this project possible, and we’re excited to see the trail enjoyed by CGS families for years to come!"

First established in 2015, the Protected Spaces Stewardship Committee is an advisory town body composed of Coventry Town Council volunteer appointments. The Committee coordinates regularly with town departments, civic groups, scouts, and local schools to develop and improve passive recreational access across town-owned open space properties.

Supported by an expanding crew of dedicated volunteers and supervised work parties, the Committee prioritizes stewardship projects across Coventry. Key initiatives include infrastructure improvements, trail management, and community engagement.

The newly restored footbridge stands as a testament to what community collaboration can achieve, preserving a vital outdoor classroom space for young learners. Town residents and trail users can learn more about local open spaces or report trail conditions needing town follow-up by using the trail reporting form on the official town website.
